When we opened our first Barbara Jean's on St. Simons Island in early 1998, we never expected to open another. But a chance visit to a particularly beautiful area in northeast Florida changed that forever. That was December 1999 and the place was Ponte Vedra Beach, about 15 miles southeast of Jacksonville.
To the people in and around Jacksonville, Ponte Vedra Beach is known for its golf and tennis resorts, and mile after mile of spectacular homes perched on the dunes overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. For us though, it was a unique restaurant location called Ward's Landing on the Intercoastal Waterway. It is on the western edge of Ponte Vedra in a charming neighborhood known as Palm Valley. We were hooked. Fourteen months later we opened Barbara Jean' at Old Ward's Landings.
We are serving exactly the same menu as our original location. It is still family run, and the setting is nothing short of fantastic. With indoor and outdoor seating, end-to-end glass windows and a 100 foot deck, virtually every diner has an unrestricted view of the Intercoastal and an opposite shoreline wild with palms, Cyprus trees and Live Oaks.
